Gaining experience in a chosen career stream is a crucial part of ensuring success both during Sixth Form and after. We are dedicated to building every student's CV, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to gain an insight into the work place and gaining transferable skills which are invaluable in today's competitve labour market. Work experience is ongoing throughout the academic year as students undertake tailored placements during holiday periods and in conjunction with their studies.
Year 12 A Level students will also undertake a dedicated week of work experience in a field related to their current career interest. The week is designed to gain a better understanding as to what a job in this field might entail, as well as enhance their skills. Students will be expected to shadow and work alongside employees working within the organisation. Each student is provided with a work experience pack in order to maximise their time on placement and reflect on their time within an external organisation.
Students are expected to uphold the reputation of Dyke House throughout the week as they will be acting as ambassadors for the college during their time on placement. The Sixth Form works in conjunction with high profile, top flight companies, including Accenture, Lloyds Banking Group, Huntsman, Ardagh, The Stadium of Light and Durham University,
Work experience will be of great importance when applying to university, higher apprenticeships or jobs. UCAS (University and College Admissions Service) opens in September for admission to university in 2016 and students will begin to write applications imminently. For those students applying to enter the world of work, experience in the field will be an asset to any CV or job application.
