Sport & Physical Education

A level Physical Education allows you to focus on developing and refining two practical sports performances or to adopt the role of coaches or officials. Performances will be supported by an ever expanding knowledge of how anatomy & physiology, psychology, biology and physics contribute to elite level sport. Our team of twelve highly qualified and experienced staff support excellence at A level. Students will experience first hand training camps, outdoor education and elite sports performances, both across the UK and further afield.

Unit 1: Opportunities for and the effect of leading a healthy and active lifestyle.
Unit 2: Analysis and evaluation of physical activity as a performer and/or in an adopted role/s. A coursework element is involved in Unit 2 whereby students need an awareness of theoretical factors underpinning the requirement of activities.
Unit 3: Optimising performance and evaluating contemporary issues within sport.
Unit 4: Optimising practical performance in a competitive situation. Students will be assessed performing in one role in a sport of their choice, as well as assessing the performance of others.

A level Sport and Physical Education is an excellent foundation for careers in Teaching, Coaching, Physiotherapy, Uniformed Services and Diet and Nutrition.
